CanRenew Grant Program to Aid Communities Affected by Cannabis Laws in Minnesota

10 February 2025

The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has introduced the CanRenew Community Restoration Grants, a $1 million initiative to aid communities disproportionately affected by past cannabis prohibition. Established under Minnesota’s 2023 cannabis legislation, the program funds projects in economic recovery, public health, violence prevention, youth development, and legal assistance—but does not support cannabis business operations.

Eligible applicants include nonprofits, tribal entities, educational institutions, local governments, private businesses, and community groups. Grants range from $50,000 to $200,000, with awards announced in spring 2025 and projects launching by June 30, 2025. Applications are due March 24, 2025, via the OCM website.

Interim OCM Director Eric Taubel calls the initiative a step toward equity and reinvestment in communities harmed by cannabis laws. While the program does not directly fund cannabis businesses, its economic and legal support may influence future policy and market opportunities in Minnesota’s growing cannabis sector.
